2026 Etchu-Yatsuo Owara Kaze no Bon Full-Day Course
This full-day course centers on the opening day of Etchu-Yatsuo Owara Kaze no Bon (越中八尾 おわら風の盆) (September 1-3, 2026, around Suwacho Hondori Street, Yatsuo-machi, Toyama City), a festival where dancers move to the melancholic sound of shamisen and kokyu. In the daytime, view the gorgeous floats at the Etchu-Yatsuo Tourist Hall, then learn the legendary origins of the Owara song at Monmyoji Temple. Next, experience the craft of Yatsuo washi paper at Keijusha, and cool off by the banks of the Ida River while soaking in the atmosphere of the hillside town. In the evening, have an early dinner in central Yatsuo-machi, then head to Suwacho Hondori Street at 5pm. The sound of shamisen and kokyu echoing along the stone-paved hillside street, together with the elegant dancers, colors the night with a distinctly Japanese atmosphere. A course recommended for families, offering both traditional craftsmanship and a fantastical dance all in a single day.
