2026 Suhou-tei Matsuri (数方庭祭) Full-Day Experience Course
Experience the first day of the Suhou-tei Matsuri (August 7-13, 2026), Shimonoseki's grand summer festival with over 1,800 years of history, held at Imomiya Shrine in the castle town of Chofu. Spend the day exploring the historic castle town, touching upon Takasugi Shinsaku's legacy at Kozan-ji Temple with its National Treasure Buddha Hall, and enjoying the elegant architecture of Chofu Mouri Residence and the beautiful Chofu Garden. After dining in the atmospheric Furue Alley, as evening falls, the shrine grounds transform into the festival stage. The magnificent sight of young people carrying towering bamboo branches decorated to reach the heavens, parading to the cry of "Kiri-hyoutan," represents an ancient and dignified summer festival unique to Shimonoseki.
