2026 Yanai Goldfish Lantern Festival: A Full-Day Course
This one-day course centers on the Yanai Goldfish Lantern Festival (柳井金魚ちょうちん祭り), where red and white goldfish lanterns sway over the white-walled townscape (16:30-21:00 on August 13, 2026, in Yanai City, across the white-walled townscape to Reitoro-dori Street). By day, walk through the white-walled townscape, selected as a national Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings; peek into the life of a wealthy merchant at the Muroya Residence Museum; and taste tradition at a 200-year-old kanro shoyu brewery. At Yanai Nishigura, try making Yanai's famous kingyo-chochin, and after a light dinner along Reitoro-dori, at 16:30, countless goldfish lanterns finally light up the town for a fantastical summer evening unique to Yanai.
