2026 Tsuwano Bon Dance Festival Full-Day Course
The 'Tsuwano Bon Dance Festival' (津和野盆踊り大会) is held around Tonomachi Street (殿町通り) in the castle town of Tsuwano (津和野町), Shimane Prefecture, known as the 'Little Kyoto of San'in' (held August 15, 2026). This one-day course puts the spotlight on the atmospheric castle town, with its white-walled streets and carp swimming in the moat. During the day, worship at Taikodani Inari Shrine (太皷谷稲成神社), lined with a thousand torii gates, visit the Tsuwano Catholic Church (津和野カトリック教会), unusual for its tatami-mat flooring, and experience the castle town's culture at the former residence of the great novelist Mori Ogai (森鴎外) and at the domain school Yorokan (藩校養老館). After finishing dinner near Tsuwano Station (津和野駅), a festive Bon dance mood begins to spread around Tonomachi Street from around 17:00.
