2026 Tsuwano 'Koi, Koi, Koi' Festival Full-Day Course
The 'Tsuwano Koi, Koi, Koi Festival' (つわの鯉・恋・来いまつり) is held at the Roadside Station Nagomi no Sato (道の駅なごみの里) in Tsuwano (津和野町), the 'Little Kyoto of San'in' (held August 29, 2026). This one-day course puts the spotlight on a playful festival unique to this castle town, known for the carp swimming in its moats. During the day, take in a panoramic view of the castle town by lift from the ruins of Tsuwano Castle (津和野城跡), worship at Washibara Hachimangu Shrine (鷲原八幡宮), known for yabusame horseback archery, and tour Tonomachi Street (殿町通り), where carp swim in the moat, and the tatami-floored Tsuwano Catholic Church (津和野カトリック教会). After finishing dinner near Tsuwano Station (津和野駅), a festive mood begins to spread at the Roadside Station Nagomi no Sato from around 17:00. Local performing arts shows and prize drawings are held, and fireworks are scheduled to launch from around 20:10, the first in seven years. True to its name, which plays on 'koi' (鯉/carp), 'koi' (恋/love), and 'koi' (来い/come), it should be a day that deepens family bonds.
