2026 Kyoto City Rakusai Bamboo Park (京都市洛西竹林公園) Bamboo Field Splash Pond Full-Day Course
In the bamboo groves of Nishikyo Ward, Kyoto City, there is a free water play area: the Splash Pond at the Bamboo Field in Kyoto City Rakusai Bamboo Park (京都市洛西竹林公園). In 2026 the water runs on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays between Wednesday 1 July and Wednesday 30 September, and every day except Wednesdays from Saturday 18 July to Monday 31 August. The park is open 9:00-17:00 (last entry 16:00) and closed every Wednesday and over the New Year period. The venue is Kyoto City Rakusai Bamboo Park in Nishikyo Ward, Kyoto City, and the good news is that both entry and water play are free. The pond is about ankle-deep, so even small children who have just started walking can go in with a guardian. There are play features such as a slide that makes use of the sloping ground, along with a lawn plaza and an arbour, so there is always somewhere to be when you are not in the water. In the morning, walk the neighbouring Bamboo Path in Muko City, get a feel for bamboo culture at the museum in the park, and then spread out a packed lunch on the lawn. In the afternoon, plenty of water play at the bamboo-ringed Bamboo Field. The bamboo softens the sunlight, and when a breeze passes through you feel the coolness, which is the way of spending summer that only this place offers. You can get here by bus from Hankyu Rakusaiguchi Station or Katsura Station, so it is easy to plan as an outing close to home.
