2026 Maruyama Park (円山公園) Water Play Area: Full-Day Course

Held in the arms of the Hokkaido Jingu (北海道神宮) woods and the primeval forest, Maruyama Park (円山公園) is the nearest summer retreat for families in Sapporo. The brook inside that park is where you can play in the water: the Maruyama Park Water Play Area. In a typical year it can be enjoyed from Wednesday 1 July to Monday 31 August, from 10:00 to 16:00 (Sapporo City's information gives early July to late August). Use is free, and with the shade of the woods and restrooms on hand, even families with small children can spend the day with peace of mind. In the morning, visit Hokkaido Jingu and walk the approach through the deep woods to get away from the summer heat. Then tour Sapporo Maruyama Zoo (札幌市円山動物園) to see the polar bears and elephants, and take a leisurely lunch break at Maruyama Class, directly connected to Maruyama-koen Station. In the afternoon, change into swimwear and dip your feet in the brook. Everything is within walking distance of Maruyama-koen subway station, so a whole day can be put together without a car, which is the convenience of this city. With plenty of shade in the park, it is an easy water-play course to plan even for small children who do not cope well with the heat.
