2026 Takatsu Park Toddler Pool: Full-Day Course
This outing puts the Takatsu Park Toddler Pool, a summer-only pool set up in Takatsu Park (高津公園) in Wakayama City, at the center of a morning of water play. In 2026 the season is short, running from Saturday, July 18 to Friday, July 31, with hours from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Because children play before the heat turns severe, it is gentle on small bodies. Only children of preschool age may use it; elementary school students and older are not admitted. A guardian must accompany the child, and swimwear is required. Ordinary disposable diapers and pull-up pants are not allowed, so please bring swim diapers. Admission is free, so you can also wrap up early to match your child's mood. In the morning, look at the fish of the Kii Channel at the Wakayama Prefectural Museum of Natural History, then stop at Tamatsushima Shrine in Wakanoura, a place sung about in the Manyoshu (万葉集) anthology, before heading to the park. It makes a half-day found only here, where water, living creatures and history all connect. The pool may be cancelled due to rain or other weather conditions, so checking the forecast before you set out is reassuring.
