2026 Full-Day Course: Miyazaki Prefectural Agricultural Science Park Lupinus Park Waterland (宮崎県農業科学公園ルピナスパーク ウォーターランド)
A day built around the Miyazaki Prefectural Agricultural Science Park Lupinus Park Waterland (宮崎県農業科学公園ルピナスパーク ウォーターランド) in Takanabe, Koyu District, that also lets you take in Takanabe's history. Waterland is a water-friendly facility for experiencing the water essential to farming, officially stated to be not a swimming facility, a place for getting close to water rather than swimming in it. It operates from around April 29 through mid-September, sometimes extending to around mid-October depending on weather, with hours of roughly 9:30 to 16:30. The official website does not state specific 2026 dates, so please check the latest information before visiting. Admission is free, and being open for a long stretch from Golden Week into early autumn is a major draw. In the morning, visit Takanabe Daishi (高鍋大師), where countless stone statues stand in a row, both children and adults are sure to be wide-eyed at the sight. Right nearby, at the Mochida Kofun Cluster (持田古墳群), you can walk among the burial mounds scattered across the hill and feel ancient Takanabe. For lunch, spread out a picnic at Maizuru Park (舞鶴公園) on the former Takanabe Castle (高鍋城跡) site and take a relaxed break in the shade. In the afternoon, move to Lupinus Park (ルピナスパーク) and spend time at Waterland touching the water until evening. With stone statues, ancient burial mounds, castle ruins, and water, it makes for a richly packed day.
