2026 Makiba-no-Yakata Flowing Stream Full-Day Course
This course centers on the ‘Makiba-no-Yakata Flowing Stream’ in Misaki Town, Kume District, and lets you spend a full day playing close by. Makiba-no-Yakata is a hands-on interaction facility run by the Okayama Prefectural Livestock Research Institute, where you can play in a shallow, concrete-lined stream and waterfall fed by spring water from the hillside, flowing through the grounds. Rather than a pool with a fixed, enclosed water surface, it's a ‘flow’ you can trace from upstream to downstream, so children naturally feel like they're on an exploration. The roughly 5-hectare grounds also have a lavender garden, an herb garden, an athletic play area, an animal plaza, and a day-camp area, so there's plenty to do besides water play. Admission is free. The 2026 opening period has not yet been announced, and since it typically opens for summer water play, check the facility's information before heading out. In the morning, visit Kamenoko Station on the JR Tsuyama Line, known for its turtle-shaped station building, then have an early lunch of Misaki Town's famous tamago-kake gohan. In the afternoon, interact with the animals at Makiba-no-Yakata, walk through the lavender-scented grounds, and then head to the stream. This course lets you take in Misaki Town's specialties all in a single day.
