2026 Shinyu Onsen Center Jabu-Jabu Water Playground Full-Day Course
A course built around Shinyu Onsen Center Jabu-Jabu Water Playground, tucked into the mountains of Genbi-cho in Ichinoseki City, offering a full day of play close to home. In 2026 water began flowing into the Jabu-Jabu pond on Saturday, July 4, and the site is open free of charge as a water play area fed by cold mountain-stream water. On Saturday, July 18 and Sunday, July 19, an opening event runs from 10:00 to 15:00 with ring toss, target shooting, bouncy-ball scooping and more. The playground itself is open from April through October with no time limit on use, but the final day for water in the pond has not been officially announced, so check the Ichinoseki City information before you set out. Along with swings and the large combination play structure called Play Port Wonder, the grounds also have many pieces of play equipment for younger children, so families can move back and forth between the water and the playground. Shinyu Onsen Center, offering day-use bathing and meals, is right next door, and Shinyu Campground lies just beyond it, so you can round off the water play with a warming hot-spring soak in true mountain-village style. In the morning, visit the nearby earthquake ruins of Matsurube Bridge, then have a mountain lunch at Shinyu Onsen Center. The afternoon is all about squeals of delight at how cold the stream water is.
Schedule
A lookout hill facing the bridge left exactly as it collapsed in the Iwate-Miyagi Nairiku Earthquake
An unhurried lunch at a hot-spring facility in the mountains
A grand finale at a free water playground fed by cold mountain-stream water
