2026 Hiroshima Gate Park Mist Fountain: A Full Day Course
Hiroshima Gate Park, created on the site of the former Hiroshima Municipal Baseball Stadium in Naka Ward (中区), Hiroshima City, is home to the Hiroshima Gate Park Mist Fountain. The mist that sprays up at regular intervals in front of the landmark Great Roof Plaza is a popular summer spot where you can cool off right in the heart of the city. A playground that makes use of the rolling ground is right beside it, so children can move back and forth between water play and active play. Admission is free. Located in the central Kamiyacho / Hatchobori area, it is easy to reach by streetcar or bus, which is another big attraction. The operating period for 2026 has not been announced, so check the official website for the latest information before you set out. This one-day course starts at the Hiroshima City Children's Museum of Culture and Science, where free hands-on exhibits and the planetarium spark children's curiosity from the morning. At lunch, savor Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki at Okonomimura in Shintenchi (新天地), and in the afternoon make time to walk through Peace Memorial Park (平和記念公園) and face the Atomic Bomb Dome (原爆ドーム). The finale is the mist fountain at Gate Park. It is a day that only central Hiroshima can offer, linking learning and play into a single thread.
