2026 Uonuma City Koide Hokubu Pool: A Full Day of Fun
This one-day course is centered on Uonuma City Koide Hokubu Pool, open from 1pm to 4pm on July 18 (Sat), 19 (Sun), 20 (Mon, holiday), 25 (Sat), and 26 (Sun), and from August 1 (Sat) through August 31 (Mon), 2026. Admission is free. It's an outdoor pool where local children gather on summer afternoons, and since it's only open for three hours in the afternoon, you can focus on playing hard in that limited time. Uonuma is known as one of Japan's heaviest snowfall regions, but in summer it's lush and green, with pleasant mountain breezes—making the water feel especially refreshing here. In the morning, visit Saifukuji Temple's Kaisando Hall, famous for its Ishikawa Unchō carvings, then pick up local ingredients and lunch at Roadside Station Yunotani before heading to the pool in time for its 1pm opening. It's a simple yet fulfilling day that connects the craft of a master Echigo artisan with a free community pool. Note that the pool is closed on August 12 and 13, so check this when planning your schedule.
