2026 University of Tokyo Misaki Marine Biological Station Full-Day Course
On the seaside of Misaki at the tip of the Miura Peninsula stands the University of Tokyo Misaki Marine Biological Station (東京大学三崎臨海実験所), known as the birthplace of marine biology in Japan. It is a historic research facility dating back to the Meiji era, where the marine life of rich Sagami Bay has long been studied. Because it is a research facility rather than an aquarium open at all times, you need to check the official website for whether tours or public events are held and their dates, but simply walking through Misaki, a town at the front line of marine research, makes for a day full of learning about the sea. In the morning, enjoy the lively tuna and Miura vegetables at Urari Marche (うらりマルシェ), the direct-sales center at Misaki Port, and in the afternoon head to the seaside of Koajiro and Misaki, where the station is located. This is a course for families to savor the atmosphere of a research town.
