A historical museum of Yokohama during the port opening period, featuring a Tamasho tree in the courtyard that was depicted in drawings from the time of Commodore Perry's arrival. Within the sturdy building of the former British Consulate General, you can carefully trace Yokohama's transformation before and after the port opening through historical documents, photographs, and newspapers. Standing on the site where the Treaty of Amity between Japan and the United States was concluded, this is a fitting starting point for the port opening walk.
Tips
The exhibitions are well-explained, so allow plenty of time. The Tamasho tree in the courtyard is an excellent photo spot. The museum is generally closed on Mondays, so check the opening schedule in advance.
