About this spot

Japan's first Western-style street, created during the Keio period following the port opening. Historic structures such as the Kanagawa Prefectural Government Building and the Yokohama District Court line the street, and ginkgo trees add seasonal color. Cafés and restaurants that utilize historical architecture are scattered throughout, making it perfect for a lunch break during your walk. The ginkgo trees' autumn foliage is typically at its best in late November.

Tips

The sidewalk is wide and easy to walk with a stroller. Popular café terraces can get crowded on weekends, so arriving before noon for an early lunch is recommended.

Best time to visit

Allow 1.5 hours; lunchtime is less crowded before noon
