A 3-minute ferry ride across Uraga Harbor on a charming traditional-style pom-pom boat
About this spot
A small ferry service connecting east and west Uraga Harbor in about 3 minutes, continuing a tradition from the Edo period. Remarkably, the route is officially recognized as a municipal road—making it a unique experience to cross a 'sea highway' by boat. Boarding the cute 'Atago Maru,' modeled after a traditional pleasure barge, feels like a mini-cruise. It's the perfect gateway to a historical walk through the port town of Uraga.
Tips
Fares: ¥400 for adults, ¥200 for elementary school children; cash only. If the ferry is across the harbor, ring the buzzer at the terminal to call it. Strollers can be boarded as-is.
Best time to visit
3 minutes of sailing plus up to 30 minutes waiting; operates continuously except during lunch break (around noon)
