About this spot
After descending from Owakudani to Togendai Port by ropeway, the day finishes with a pirate ship cruise on Lake Ashi. With its lavish gold and red hull decorated with pirate figures, kids' excitement peaks the moment they step aboard. It's an elegant boat trip from which you can see the torii gate of Hakone Shrine standing in the lake, and on clear days, Mount Fuji as well.
Tips
The front of the deck is a prime photo spot, but the wind is strong there, so watch that hats don't blow away. If you disembark at Hakonemachi Port or Motohakone Port, you can take a bus that loops all the way back to Hakone-Yumoto.
Best time to visit
25 to 40 minutes on board; around 2pm is easier to board, before the rush of people heading home.
