Chikyu no Marukumieru Oka Observatory (Hill Where You Can See the Curve of the Earth)

Flow of the course

About this spot

This observatory sits atop Mount Atago, the highest point in Choshi. From the rooftop viewing area, a 360-degree panorama opens up, and the gently curving horizon makes kids' eyes light up as they realize the earth really is round. On clear days you can even see Mount Fuji and Mount Tsukuba.

Tips

It's about a 15-minute uphill walk from Inubo Station, so taking a taxi is easier if you have small children with you. The rooftop is windy, so having something to layer on is reassuring.

Best time to visit

About 40 minutes. Clear mornings to midday are the best time for views.
