View the nationally designated historic site of Ino Tadataka's former residence along the Onogawa River
About this spot
The house where Ino Tadataka, who surveyed and walked across all of Japan, lived as a merchant until age 50. Despite being a nationally designated historic site, admission is free. The earthen floor and shop layout convey the lifestyle of an Edo-period merchant. The views of the Onogawa River and Hie Bridge are lovely, and combined with the adjacent memorial museum, it's a place to reflect on times past.
Tips
The building has many steps and thresholds, so it's safer to leave the stroller at the entrance and carry your baby. Since the visit is brief, pairing it with the memorial museum across the river is efficient.
Best time to visit
Plan for 15-20 minutes. Not crowded, so a quick visit is possible
