About this spot
Known as the closest terraced rice field to Tokyo, Oyama Sennmaita is selected as one of Japan's top 100 terraced rice fields and showcases stunning countryside scenery. Approximately 375 rice paddies cascade down steep slopes in multiple layers, their appearance changing with the seasons. Walking slowly along the field paths, children become absorbed watching frogs and insects.
Tips
The rice fields are precious farmland. Walk along the field boundaries and never enter the paddies themselves. Wear slip-resistant shoes and bring insect repellent for peace of mind.
Best time to visit
Allow about 40 minutes. Late afternoon light at an angle makes the water surface shimmer beautifully.
