Panoramic View of Tateyama Bay from the White Castle Keep: A Castle of the Satomi Eight Dog Legend
About this spot
The pristine white castle keep standing atop Shiroyama Park is a symbol of Tateyama, rebuilt on the site of the former stronghold of the Sengoku warlord Satomi clan. The interior houses the Eight Dog Legend Museum, which exhibits materials related to 'The Satomi Eight Dog Legend' (南総里見八犬伝). From the top floor, you can see Tateyama Bay and even Izu Island (伊豆大島) in the distance. The flower-lined climbing path is the perfect stroll for the two of you.
Tips
The hike to the mountaintop is an uphill walk of about 15 minutes, so comfortable shoes are recommended. Free parking is available at Shiroyama Park, and on clear days you can even see Mt. Fuji.
Best time to visit
Allow about 60 minutes. The morning is relatively quiet.
