Walk leisurely through the thousand torii gates and explore the shrine grounds in the morning
About this spot
An ancient shrine said to have been founded over 1,900 years ago, with its Gongen-style main buildings constructed during the Edo period still standing. The thousand torii gates leading to Otome Inari are the most famous photo spot in Yanesen. Typically from mid-April, the azalea garden opens, with approximately 100 varieties and 3,000 azalea plants brightly coloring the hillside.
Tips
The thousand torii gates have fewer visitors in the morning, making it ideal for photos. During azalea season, aim for right after opening. The grounds have many gravel paths, so wear comfortable walking shoes. You can get a shrine stamp (goshuin) at the shrine office.
Best time to visit
Plan for approximately 1 hour. Weekend afternoons during azalea season can be crowded even in the morning.
