Flow of the course

About this spot

The principal shrine of Kawagoe, known as the matchmaking deity. With a history of approximately 1,500 years, the approximately 15-meter-tall wooden torii gate is one of Japan's largest of its kind. The 'Ai-tai Omikuji' (sea bream fortune-telling), where you fish up charms with a fishing rod, is hugely popular with children. In summer, the 'Enmusubi Furin' (Matchmaking Wind Bells) event, featuring approximately 2,000 Edo-style wind bells, is typically held throughout the grounds.

Tips

The sea bream fortune-telling involves fishing up charms with a rod, which keeps children entertained. Visiting early in the morning allows you to walk around peacefully before crowds arrive, and the grounds are easy to navigate even with a stroller.

Best time to visit

Allow 45 minutes to 1 hour. Mid-morning (around 9 AM) is relatively quiet.
