Discover the History of Oshi Castle at the Gozankai Yagura and Local Museum
About this spot
Oshi Castle withstood Ishida Mitsunari's water siege and was the stage for the film "The Legend of Oshi Castle." The Gozankai Yagura turret, towering by the castle moat, is the symbol of Gyōda. Inside, the Gyōda Municipal Local Museum traces the castle's battles and the history of Gyōda, a town famous for socks, through models and exhibits. Enjoy panoramic views of the city from the turret's observation room.
Tips
The museum is often closed on Mondays, so check in advance. Strollers are allowed inside the museum, but reaching the top floor of the turret requires stairs only. If you encounter costumed attendants in armor, they make great photo subjects.
Best time to visit
Allow 60–90 minutes. Early morning, just after opening, is the quietest and most comfortable time to visit.
