Trace Japan's History from Prehistory to the Modern Era in One of Japan's Largest History Museums

About this spot

Built on a corner of Sakura Castle Ruins, this is one of Japan's largest museums where you can learn about Japanese history and folklore through a comprehensive historical survey. Six exhibition rooms span from prehistory and ancient times to the present day, and the meticulously crafted restoration models and dioramas captivate adults with their impressive detail. With such a wealth of information that half a day is not enough to see everything, it is also called the sacred site for history enthusiasts.

Tips

The exhibition rooms are vast, so the secret is to narrow down to 2 or 3 eras you want to see and explore them thoroughly. The museum shop's history-themed merchandise is also popular.

Best time to visit

Quietest right after opening. Budget 2-3 hours if you prefer a leisurely pace.
