Family Photo at the Torii Gate on Wave-Splashed Rocky Shores
About this spot
A sacred site where the kami of Oarai Isomae Shrine is said to have descended. The torii gate standing on rocks in the sea with waves crashing against it offers the most spectacular scenery in Oarai and is famous nationwide as a sunrise viewing spot. Located just along the coastline below the shrine's stone steps, you can enjoy it as part of your shrine visit.
Tips
The rocky area is off-limits; view it from the coastal walkway. Wave spray can reach the area, so it's good to have a child's jacket or towel on hand for protection.
Best time to visit
Allow 20-30 minutes. The view is best during calmer wave conditions.
