One of the Kanto region's most revered ancient shrines, venerating Mt. Tsukuba itself as its sacred deity. With a history spanning approximately 3,000 years, it is renowned for blessings of good marriages and romantic connections. Passing through the Gate of Guardian Deities, visitors are greeted by a towering cedar with a trunk age of about 800 years, and the majestic main hall is impressive in every way. The starting point of this mountain journey offers pleasant walks past souvenir shops and traditional toad-oil hawkers' performances along the approach path.
Tips
Stone steps lead to the main hall, so a baby carrier is more practical than a stroller. It's about a 10-minute walk from the municipal parking lot to the shrine grounds.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 45 minutes. Early morning visits offer less crowded approach paths and a comfortable experience.
