Rapidly Ascend to Miyuki-ga-hara via Eight Minutes of Mountain Railway
About this spot
A historic cable car with one of Japan's longest operational records, connecting Miyawaki Station at the shrine base to the Tsukuba Mountain Summit Station in approximately 8 minutes. The journey offers views of giant cedar groves and massive boulders through the car windows as it climbs the steep grade, and the midpoint vehicle passing is always a hit with children. This shortcut bypasses what would otherwise be a roughly 90-minute hiking trail, allowing families with infants easy access to the mountain summit.
Tips
Trains run at approximately 20-minute intervals. Fold strollers before boarding for smooth entry. For the best views, sit toward the front of the car in the direction of travel.
Best time to visit
Ride time is approximately 8 minutes. On weekends, expect queues for upbound trips in the morning.
