One of the Three Great Shrines of Eastern Japan: View the Sacred Spring Water of Oshio Well

About this spot

An ancient shrine counted among the three great shrines of Eastern Japan alongside Kashima Shrine (鹿島神宮) and Katori Shrine (香取神宮). On both sides of the first torii gate along the Tone River are two sacred wells called Oshio Well, and it's said to be auspicious if you can spot the male and female bottles submerged in the clear water. The compact and serene grounds are just the right size for three generations to visit and worship leisurely.

Tips

The grounds are flat and compact, so those with concerns about mobility can tour with confidence. Check with the shrine office at each location for commemorative amulets related to the three great shrines tour.
