One of Eastern Japan's oldest and most revered shrines where Takemikazuchi, the god of martial arts, is enshrined. It serves as the head shrine for all Kashima shrines nationwide. Beyond the vermillion torii gate, counted among Japan's three great shrine gates, lies the inner approach path lined with towering cedar trees, with attractions scattered throughout such as a deer park and the Misogi-ike Pond with crystal-clear spring water. As a power spot for victory luck and auspicious outcomes, it's perfect for three-generation family blessings.
Tips
The approach path is unpaved gravel, so a baby carrier works better than a stroller. Plan to get your shrine stamp (goshuin) early in the morning before the stamp office gets crowded for a smooth experience.
