An Unhurried Stroll Through Maple Valley with Its Vermillion Kangetsu Bridge
About this spot
A spacious park near JR Yahiko Station featuring a circuit-style garden with streams, waterfalls, and a tunnel that can be enjoyed throughout the four seasons. The most famous spot is "Maple Valley," where a vermillion-painted Kangetsu Bridge (観月橋) arches over a gorge. Whether during new green or autumn foliage season, a walk through the dappled sunlight is wonderfully serene and beautiful. It's the perfect concluding spot for couples to linger in the afterglow of their shrine visit.
Tips
The park has gentle slopes, so wear comfortable walking shoes. The tunnel route to Maple Valley is particularly atmospheric and recommended. Since it's just a short walk from JR Yahiko Station, saving this for last makes the return trip convenient.
Best time to visit
Plan for approximately 2 hours. Evening light at an angle makes Maple Valley particularly beautiful.
