Take a Castle Ruins Stroll Gazing at the Triple Turret Reflected in the Moat
About this spot
A spacious park representing Joetsu, built on the former site of Takada Castle, the residence of Matsudaira Tadateru, the sixth son of Tokugawa Ieyasu. The symbol triple turret has been restored, and its reflection in the moat is picturesque. Known in spring as one of Japan's three greatest night-cherry-blossom viewing spots, and in summer for the lotus flowers covering the outer moat—each season offers distinct scenic beauty. Spacious lawns and walking paths allow children to play freely.
Tips
The park grounds are flat and comfortable for strollers. You can also enter and view the inside of the triple turret (additional admission fee). Parking fills up quickly during cherry blossom and lotus seasons, so allow extra time.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour needed. Visit in the late afternoon when the moat scenery is especially beautiful.
