Close-up viewing of actual SL and Shinkansen trains, plus simulator experiences
About this spot
A railway specialty museum and symbol of Niitsu, the railway town. Actual train vehicles including SL steam locomotives and Shinkansen are displayed outdoors, and train-loving children will be thrilled seeing these massive vehicles up close. Inside the museum, you can leisurely enjoy materials and models telling the story of Niitsu and railway history, as well as simulators offering pseudo-driving experiences. Child-oriented vehicle experience events are often held mainly on weekends, so it's best to check the official information in advance for event dates.
Tips
The museum has parking and is convenient by car. Outdoor exhibits are affected by sun and rain, so bring a hat and rain gear. Admission is affordable—under 500 yen even for adults—and simulator rides are best visited in the morning before crowds arrive.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 2 hours. The museum is quieter and easier to explore right after opening in the morning.
