Challenge parent-child jade hunting and stone collecting where waves lap the shore

A pebble beach accessible on foot from Itoigawa Station, known for jade stones being washed ashore. On a beach paved with small stones of various colors and shapes, listening to the sound of waves while parents and children sort through stones asking "Is this jade?" is truly like treasure hunting. Jade is said to be whitish with a green tint and noticeably heavy—the knowledge previewed at the morning museum becomes immediately useful. Even if it's not jade, arranging beautiful stones for observation makes a proper independent research project. It's a prime spot for engaging beach exploration.

Tips

The pebble beach is difficult to walk on, so waterproof sneakers or water shoes are safe even if they get wet. Work gloves and a plastic bag for carrying stones are convenient. On days with high waves, avoid getting too close to the water's edge. The upstream Jade Gorge (Hisui Kyo) is a natural monument where stone collection is prohibited, but stone hunting at the beach is an established Itoigawa tourism activity you can enjoy. There is little shade, so don't forget a hat and water.
