About this spot

A complex facility spread by Hakkaisan Brewing Company, known for the sake 'Hakkaisan,' throughout rice paddies themed around life in snow country. Beyond touring the Hakkaisan Snow Storage facility, which preserves food in approximately 1,000 tons of snow, you'll find scattered soba restaurants, a bakery, a confectionery shop popular for its baumkuchen, and kitchen goods shops—enough enjoyment to fill half a day. Strolling leisurely through the gentle landscape overlooking Hakkaisan, you can touch the food culture unique to snow country at this popular Minamiuonuma spot.

Tips

Snow storage tours are on a first-come, first-served basis, so book your time slot upon arrival. The snow storage interior is chilly, so bring a jacket. Note that the tasting corner is off-limits for drivers; try amazake (sweet rice drink) or other non-alcoholic options instead. The grounds have gravel paths, so choose a stroller-friendly route. Free parking available.

Best time to visit

Allow approximately 2 hours. Early afternoon onward is more relaxed, with less crowding.
