An oasis-like park in the heart of town developed on the grounds of historic Toyama Castle, associated with daimyo of the Sengoku period. The sight of the white castle keep reflected in the moat's water is one of Toyama's signature views, and strolling while gazing at stone walls and gardens provides just the right sense of calm for concluding your date. The park features a lawn plaza and Japanese garden, and relaxing on a bench to review trip photos is recommended. The footpath along the Matsukawa River (松川) that flows nearby has beautiful tree-lined banks where you can enjoy seasonal colors.
Tips
The park is free to enter and flat, making it easy to walk. Photographing the castle keep across the moat creates a water-mirror effect and looks great. Extending your walk along the Matsukawa riverbank offers a quiet waterside stroll, and the area is famous as a cherry blossom viewing spot in spring.
Best time to visit
About 50 minutes. Afternoon light catches the keep beautifully for photos.
