Trace Toyama Castle's History in the Keep Museum and Head to the Top-Floor Observation Deck

About this spot

The castle keep standing in Toyama Castle Ruins Park (富山城址公園) houses an entire museum inside, where you can trace over 400 years of Toyama Castle history from the Sengoku period to the present through models and exhibits presented in an easy-to-understand format. Even non-castle enthusiasts will be drawn in by the exhibition layout, and the two of you can move through together saying "wow" and "I see." The top-floor observation deck of the keep offers a sweeping view of the park you've walked through and Toyama's cityscape—a fitting finale to your day.

Tips

Admission is just a few hundred yen and quite reasonable. Inside, the museum follows a compact route in order. Movement is primarily via stairs, so comfortable shoes are reassuring. As closing time approaches, observation deck time becomes limited, so it's best to arrive with time to spare.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour. The observation deck just before dusk has soft light and beautiful cityscape views.
