About this spot

The flagship shop of Kanazawa's most celebrated traditional confectionery, continuing the legacy of an official sweetmaker for the Kaga clan since the clan period. Known for "Choseinden," a sugar-pressed sweet counted among Japan's Three Famous Confections, the in-house tea room offers seasonal wagashi and matcha sets in a leisurely atmosphere. The delicate handcrafted sweets are works of art, pleasing both eye and palate. The building also houses a Confectionery Mold Museum, displaying traditional wooden molds and offering deeper insight into Kaga confectionery culture.

Tips

From Higashi Chaya District, cross Asano River Bridge and walk about 15 minutes. The tea room may have a wait during busy times, so allow extra time. A reservable wagashi hand-making experience is also available—inquire in advance if interested. Long-keeping items like sugar-pressed sweets and mochi are easy choices for souvenirs.

Allow approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. Early afternoon hours tend to be quieter at the tea room.
