Stroll along the gorge walking trail and enjoy Kaga roasted tea and sweets at the riverside tea house

About this spot

Stretching approximately 1.3 km along the Daishoji River from Korogi Bridge through Ayatori Bridge to Kuronotani Bridge, this is Yamanaka Hot Spring's most spectacular scenic area. The walking trail reveals an ever-changing landscape of dramatic rock formations, deep pools, and small waterfalls, while dappled sunlight and the sound of the stream create a forest-bathing experience. This area is also renowned for being beloved by poet Matsuo Basho. Along the way, riverside tea houses invite you to pause and savor Kaga roasted tea and sweets while gazing at the gorge—a luxurious moment perfect for couples, where natural conversation flows effortlessly.

Tips

The walking trail has sections with many stone steps and tree roots, so sneakers are essential. The riverside tea houses operate from spring through late autumn, and seats include Kaga roasted tea and sweets for around 600 yen. Be cautious of slippery footing after rain. Since the path runs deep in the greenery along the stream, insect repellent is recommended for comfort.

Best time to visit

Allow approximately 2 hours. Early afternoon during fresh green foliage or autumn leaf season is particularly refreshing.
