Hakusan Hime Shrine (白山比咩神社)

Flow of the course

About this spot

The head shrine of Hakusan Shrines spread throughout Japan, this is one of the oldest and most distinguished shrines in the Hokuriku region, beloved locally as "Shirayama-san." The enshrined deity, Hakusan Hime no Okami, is also known as Kikuridome no Mikoto, goddess of love and matchmaking. The front approach, lined with venerable cedar trees, becomes increasingly clear in air the further you walk, with small waterfalls and ablution basins along the way. With many highlights including the great zelkova tree on the grounds, a morning visit offers exceptional freshness and clarity.

Tips

Free parking is available near the front approach entrance and on the north approach side near the main shrine. If you want to walk the full approach path, use the front entrance parking; for those with mobility concerns, the north approach side is more convenient. The stone steps are gentle but comfortable walking shoes are recommended.

Best time to visit

Approximately 1 hour required. Before 9 a.m., the atmosphere is quiet and the air is particularly crisp.
