An ancient shrine beloved as the patron deity of the harbor town of Mikuni, and famous as the venue for the Mikuni Festival, counted among the three major festivals of the Hokuriku region. The sturdy wooden gate building (楼門) is quite impressive, and the large zelkova tree (けやき) standing in the sanctuary speaks to centuries of history. The quiet sanctuary, removed from the town's bustle, is the perfect place to conclude your day's travels. Give thanks for a safe journey as your family joins in prayer together.
Tips
The sanctuary has gravel and stone steps, so it's safer to leave strollers at the entrance and carry children. After paying your respects, you can walk to Echizen Railway Mikuni Station (三国駅) in about 15 minutes, allowing you to enjoy the train ride home. Late afternoon brings fewer visitors and quieter surroundings.
