A Sweeping Panorama of the Japan Sea from the White Lighthouse Atop the Cliff
About this spot
A striking white lighthouse standing atop the cliff of Echizen Cape, which juts into the Japan Sea. Cherished as a symbol of Echizen Coast, it offers expansive panoramic views of the Japan Sea with the horizon stretching endlessly into the distance. From late winter to early spring, the surrounding slopes transform into a famous Japan daffodil colony, offering changing seasonal beauty. In the evening, the sea glows in soft light, creating a fitting finale to your drive.
Tips
The lighthouse interior is not open to the public, but the exterior and surrounding views are well worth seeing. The path from the parking area to the lighthouse involves some slopes and stairs, so wear comfortable shoes. The cliff-top location experiences strong winds; hold children's hands while sightseeing. Bring a light jacket for warmth during evening visits.
Best time to visit
Plan for about 1 hour 15 minutes. Late afternoon when the sun is low provides especially beautiful, shimmering light on the sea.
