A famous houtou specialty restaurant in the Lake Kawaguchi area; the Higashi Koiji branch is distinguished by its distinctive cloud-like white dome-shaped building. The signature houtou is a miso-based dish generously filled with pumpkin and mountain vegetables, served piping hot in an iron pot with thick, chewy noodles. After spending the morning touring the lake and mountains, the warm, gentle miso flavor will seep comfortingly into your chilled body. The hearty portions make it perfect for sharing with children.
Tips
Weekend lunches draw lines, but with many seats and relatively quick turnover, waits move fast. Since houtou is served in a hot iron pot, transfer children's portions to small bowls and let them cool before serving. The parking lot is spacious and easy to access by car. To avoid crowds, go right when they open or after 1 PM.
