A 3-Minute Aerial Stroll to Tenjozan Mountain and a Grand Panorama of Mount Fuji and Lake Kawaguchi from the Observation Plaza
About this spot
This ropeway connects Kawaguchiko Station to the observation plaza atop Tenjozan Mountain in approximately 3 minutes. As the gondola ascends, Lake Kawaguchi's full expanse and Mount Fuji appear larger and larger—you can almost see children pressing their faces against the windows during this aerial journey. The mountain-top observation plaza offers a front-row seat to Mount Fuji, with sweeping views of the lakeside town and lake surface. Tenjozan is also known as the setting for the Japanese folktale "The Grateful Badger," and the mountain-top features a small shrine and tea house, offering pleasant walking trails.
Tips
Lines tend to form around midday, so the early morning hours move more smoothly. There are some slopes and stairs up to the observation plaza, so hold hands with small children. It's cooler at this elevation, so bring a light jacket for reassurance. Round-trip tickets are standard, but if you're up for it, you can hike down instead of taking the ropeway back.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes total. Early morning with clear air is ideal for Mount Fuji views and shorter queues.
