About this spot
A shrine dedicated to the renowned Sengoku warlord Takeda Shingen, built on the grounds of Tsutsuji-ga-saki Villa (躑躅ヶ崎館), his former stronghold. The moats, stone walls, and earthen ramparts from that era still remain around the grounds, and its unique appeal lies in experiencing the atmosphere of a Sengoku-period fortress despite being a shrine. The treasure hall houses numerous artifacts related to the Takeda clan, and history enthusiasts may find themselves mesmerized. Known for blessings related to victory in battle, the grounds invite leisurely exploration of notable sights such as the sacred spring called the "Princess's Well" and a three-leafed pine tree.
Tips
Easily accessible by bus from the north exit of Kofu Station in about 8 minutes, or by car with free parking for worshippers. The treasure hall charges a modest admission fee (around 300 yen for adults) with set viewing hours, so confirm upon arrival. The grounds are primarily covered with gravel paths, making comfortable shoes recommended. Don't forget your prayer-inscription booklet if you wish to receive a shrine seal.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Early morning visits mean fewer crowds and a serene atmosphere for worship.
