Visit a Forest Distillery to Learn About Whiskey Production and Enjoy Tasting

About this spot

A whiskey distillery built in vast forests at the foot of Kaiekomagatake in the Southern Alps—the birthplace of Hakushu, known as 'forest-scented whiskey.' The subterranean waters of the Oshirakawa river system, refined through granite layers, become the spring water used in whiskey production, embodying the unique craftsmanship of this famous water region. The premises feature a museum tracing whiskey's history, a shop, and a tasting lounge, where a glass savored with the forest air is truly exceptional. Also known as a bird sanctuary, even a simple walk around the grounds treats you to the pleasant sound of birdsong.
