A long-established traditional confection shop operating since the Meiji era in Daigahara, a post town along the old Koshu Kaido, famous for its signature mochi dusted with kinako and black molasses. Known for sweets crafted with Hakushu's famous spring water and local ingredients, summer brings refreshing confections that seem to capture the very freshness of water itself. The charming wooden structure of the shop preserves the character of the historic post town, and nearby buildings include the historic sake brewery 'Shichikenno' with its traditional storehouse. Enjoying traditional sweets while walking the old highway is the perfect midday experience for a famous water tour.
Tips
Popular fresh confections may sell out after midday, so arriving early is recommended. There is parking around the shop. For lunch, try soba and other dishes at eateries in the Daigahara area. The sake brewery across the way offers tastings at its shop, but drivers should purchase only.

Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. Late morning to early afternoon has the best selection of fresh confections.
