About this spot
A hands-on science museum built near the summit of Mt. Atago, overlooking the Kofu Basin. Its extensive permanent exhibits let visitors operate buttons and levers to experience the wonders of science firsthand, captivating everyone from small children to adults. In the dome-shaped Space Theater, you can view a beautiful starry sky projected by the planetarium, and on some days hands-on events such as science crafts and science shows are held. The observation terrace offers a panoramic view of the town of Kofu, and on clear days the view alone is worth the visit.
Tips
Admission to the permanent exhibits is around 520 yen for adults, and the planetarium is a separate charge with combination tickets available, so check the viewing times at the reception desk. There is free parking, but since the road climbs the mountain, arriving by car is convenient. The building has an elevator, making it easy to get around with a stroller. Planetarium seats tend to fill up on weekends, so it's a good idea to reserve a viewing slot as soon as you arrive.
Best time to visit
About 2 hours 30 minutes. Right after opening, the exhibits are less crowded, so you can enjoy the hands-on displays without waiting.
