Lunch with the specialty chestnut rice "Yamaya Set Meal"
About this spot
At the main branch of Chikufu-do, a chestnut confectionery shop founded in the Meiji era, the second floor dining room serves the signature chestnut rice. Plump, fluffy chestnuts top the chewy glutinous rice, served as a set meal with small dishes of mountain vegetables and mukago—a dish that delights both children and adults. The first floor shop displays chestnut yokan, chestnut red bean cake, and other chestnut sweets perfect for souvenirs. Since you can eat and shop in one place, it's a reliable choice for a rainy day lunch.
Tips
Lines often form during lunch hours, so arriving just after opening or before noon ensures a shorter wait. The dining room has both tatami and table seating, making it child-friendly. You can also use the shop for shopping only.
Best time to visit
Allow approximately 1 hour 15 minutes. Arriving before noon means less waiting time
